Any spine surgery can have complications though the chance of complications is less than 1%. There are basically three types of complications that can occur after spine surgery.
1. In 2 to 3% of the patients CSF leakage can occur after spine surgery. CSF is the cerebral spinal fluid that can leak after spine surgery. Your surgeon will repair the dural sack in the operation theatre and you might be prescribed a bed rest of 2 to 3 days. Other than that, it usually does not cause any major problems.
2. infection can occur in 1% of the patients. If it happens, you might be put on IV antibiotics for 3 to 6 weeks.
